Posting From CEO | Reflection

As I reflect on the variety of efforts and activities undertaken my our agency in 2007,  I am remain thankful for the support of this wonderful community that sees Annie Malone Children & Family Service Center as an essential part of it. Nothing we do could happen without community support.

There was a wonderful outpouring of love and support during our Annual May Day Events.  This year there were well over 115 thousand spectators and participants for our series of events.

We responded to a proposal, from the State of Missouri, to provide transitional living services to young people leaving the foster care system and were successful in winning one of several contracts.  Despite the vandalism that slowed our progress, we able to ready ourselves to receive and work with young people (ages 16-21) who strive to be independent and productive citizens in our community.

Although difficult, our agency made the wise decision to reorganize our resources and moved our Residential Program to the Prince Hall building on Newstead and Carter.  Our Day Care Program is housed in the opposite wing of that building and allows our children to reside in a more family like environment.

Later in the year, Annie Malone successfully completed an extensive examination of its operating systems, policies, programs, and compliance with best practice standards.  The Council on Accreditation (COA), which conducted the evaluations, attests to the standards of excellence for over 1,000 private and public organizations representing more than 6,000,000 children and families in the United States and Canada.  We are proud to have earned reaccreditations thru 2010!

We are also proud to announce that our agency is the current operator of the cafeteria on the lower level of the St. Louis City Hall.  Annie M. Café at City Hall celebrated its grand opening October 15, 2007.  This entrepreneurial opportunity is expected to provide work experience for some in our transitional living program, position our agency for greater community visibility and increase revenue toward programs and services.

Our development department expanded in one case and introduced in another, two new components to the giving opportunities at Annie Malone.  We expanded our Court of Honor Giving Campaign.  Thanks to the rendering of our historic building, erected as the St. Louis Colored Orphans Home, we now have a limited number of beautiful pen and ink prints to offer those making leadership gifts of $1,000 or more to this campaign.  Just as exciting, we formally introduced the Power of 57 Cents Campaign.  This campaign challenges all our supporters to examine how they spend 57 cents each day for 365 days and encourages them to donate that amount to Annie Malone.  Most are surprised to learn that adds up to be $208 dollars a year!

We look forward to another year of caring for our children and thank you for supporting Annie Malone Children and Family Service Center.

Sincerely,

Richard L. King
