On Tuesday, December 9, in the Carnahan Building located at 1114 Market Street on the seventh floor, a ribbon cutting ceremony set for 10:30 a.m. will mark Annie M’s Seventh Story Café’s grand opening. This Café will conveniently offer breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Its spacious surroundings will allow the public to learn more about services, programs, events, and volunteer opportunities offered through Annie Malone Children & Family Service Center.

Annie M’s Seventh Story Café is a part of an entrepreneurial endeavor of Annie Malone, a social service agency that has served St. Louis for over a century. The Café is an extension of Annie Malone’s on-going food and catering service, Annie M. Fine Cuisine. Annie M. Fine Cuisine also caters lunches, dinners, receptions and special events for individuals, area businesses and corporations.

A portion of the Café’s proceeds will be used to offset the costs of Annie Malone’s programs and services. Annie Malone serves more than 800 children and families, annually, through its residential treatment program, therapeutic school (Emerson Academy), transitional living program, early learning center and respite care services.

“The support we hope to gain from our customer base will help us fulfill our mission of providing quality services to children and families,” said Richard L. King, Chief Executive Officer of Annie Malone. “In this economic climate we feel blessed to be able to grow our café business and look forward to building positive relationships with our customers,” he declared.

In hopes to satisfy everyone’s appetites working and visiting in the building, the menu will include fresh brewed coffee, an assortment of baked delights, fruit, hot and cold breakfast items, deli sandwiches, wings, salads, home-made soups, assorted beverages and snacks. The menu will also include a ‘Specialty of the Day’. “I am extremely happy that we are opening up our second café at the Carnahan Building. We hope to provide a food service that pleases our customers and affords an opportunity for some of our adolescents to learn the business,” stated King.

Currently, Annie M. Café at City Hall celebrated its grand opening October 15, 2007. This entrepreneurial opportunity is expected to provide work experience for some in our transitional living program, position our agency for greater community visibility and increase revenue toward programs and services.

Our development department expanded in one case and introduced in another, two new components to the giving opportunities at Annie Malone. We expanded our Court of Honor Giving Campaign. Thanks to the rendering of our historic building, erected as the St. Louis Colored Orphans Home, we now have a limited number of beautiful pen and ink prints to offer those making leadership gifts of $1,000 or more to this campaign. Just as exciting, we formally introduced the Power of 57 Cents Campaign. This campaign challenges all our supporters to examine how they spend 57 cents each day for 365 days and encourages them to donate that amount to Annie Malone. Most are surprised to learn that adds up to be $208 dollars a year!

We look forward to another year of caring for our children and thank you for supporting Annie Malone Children and Family Service Center.

Sincerely,

Richard L.
